Garmin G Tunes Installer Windows

 admin

Garmin offers an entire suite of software that is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X.

Ok, after 14-15 or so years with MapSource version I had before, I recently upgraded to the newest version of Topo U.S. I updated and installed the maps on my Rino 530 with little challenge and I am very happy with some of the new features.

But when I attempted to install maps on my wifes Rino 650 it Finds the Device and Unit ID, but gives the message 'no unlocked maps were found for this device'. I was under the impression that the 100k maps would work for both the 530 & the 650.

Was I incorrect? Or is there omething else wrong?

Any input would be appreciated. I feared that was the problem. It is very frustrating to have to purchase 4 copies to be able to hike with the entire family and everybody have the same information. What happens if my 530 dies and I replace choose to replace it? Again, I assume I have to buy another copy. I hope their is a work around.

Apple has even figured that out for I-tunes. They figured out that a household may have more than one I-Pod, I-Pad, I-phone, etc.

Data warehouse lifecycle toolkit. Does anyone know of a solution to this challenge without buying multiple copies? Does anyone know of a solution to this challenge without buying multiple copies?Garmin has typically sold their US Topo maps without requiring an unlock code allowing one to install them on as many units as they want. For whatever reason they changed that with TOPO U.S.

I have TOPO U.S. 100k 2008 on DVD and there's no lock on the maps. I also have a few TOPO U.S.

24k maps on DVD as well and those aren't locked either. That said just about any map (topo, road etc) you purchase in download format will be locked. So you have a few choices. You could see if you can get a TOPO U.S. 100k 2008 DVD on an auction site or NOS (new old stock). You could also do the same for a 24k topo covering your area. Personally I prefer the 24k's since they have routable roads/trails while the 100k's don't.

My advice when it comes to anything Garmin is don't make assumptions. Check before purchasing anything. They sometimes change policies without any/much notice.

Yes my 2000 or so CD ROM version gave up with not being compatible with newer versions of Windows and a few scratches on the CD's made it finally unusable. That is frustrating. 24k isn't compatabile with my early version 530, which is the reason I purchased 100k.

Very dissappointed in Garmin for tieing up their software to be unit specific. You probably mean United States Topo v3.02 which comes on three CD's (I have it too). That is usable in BaseCamp and MapSource ( it to 6.16.3) I don't personally although others do. PS: I use MapSource 6.16.3 on a Win7 SP1 x64 machine just fine.I had updated it along the way, and you are correct on the version, but I believe the problem was also compounded by scratched CD Rom's.

I sent Garmin an e-mail. On the downloadable version, you can record the units on the Garmin account and it sounds like that will unlock them, so I want to confirm if that is the case with the DVD version as well and to determine if there is a cost associated with it. Thank you both for the insight so far. The DVD version is also locked.

Thank you all for your help. You are correct - 1 compatible device. Garmin responded with the same answer and then to include the following: (my words in paraphrase) Garmin is rigid about this, so much so that if my device dies and I want to replace it, I have to send my device to Garmin and replace through them and they will unlock the new device. I am not able to purchase a new model as an upgrade and use the same version of Topo. They will not unlock it.

Again, I understand their desire to protect their product. But like Apple even figured out there is a needed for limited sharing in the same household and ways to limit the reach of that sharing. Obviously they could limit the lock/unlock to 2-4 devices just like they currently limit it to 1 device. Obviously they could limit the lock/unlock to 2-4 devices just like they currently limit it to 1 device.FYI about 10 years ago Garmin allowed two unlock codes per map product (I think their marine charts still allow that). They reduced it to one which upset a lot of people. Garmin purchases their map data from 3rd parties (e.g.

NAVTEQ for North American roads maps) and converts them to its own custom format. It's quite possible that these 3rd parties, through their license agreements, dictate the one unlock policy. I don't know. The bottom line, as I say all the time in these forums, is to double check before purchasing anything Garmin. One cannot assume anything.
