Michael Rabiger Documentary Film Directing Visiting Lecturer and Project Adviser (2012-13) Michael Rabiger started his career as an editor and documentary director for BBC, North German Television, Granada Television, and others. In 1972 became a teacher in the film department of Columbia College Chicago (USA), where he founded the Documentary Center (1988), and later became Chair of Columbia’s Film/Video Department. In 2005 was made Professor Emeritus by Columbia College Chicago. Author of specialized books such as Directing the Documentary; Developing Story Ideas; and Directing: Film Techniques and Aesthetics (Focal Press: Boston) published in several languages.
Race
In 1994 designed and led first VISIONS European documentary workshop for the international film schools’ association CILECT which met in Berlin, Prague, and Amsterdam. He has also given lectures and workshops in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Iceland, Israel, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, UK, USA. Distinguished Visiting Professor (1994-5) at NYU Dept of Film and Television. Was made Honorary Professor (2002) at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina; awarded the Preservation and Scholarship Award (2003) by International Documentary Association in Los Angeles; and was given the Genius Career Achievement Award (2005) by the Chicago International Documentary Festival.
