Something New The Beatles Rare

A lot of trash has been written by young reviewers (who think they are hip but aren't) about this superb DVD, probably because they weren't born when Lennon died, let alone understand why Sgt Pepper is so important: maybe they just don't get it! The Beatles were and are the most important popular music band of the 20th Century; end of story. Everything that can be said about them, has been. So it takes a great deal of effort to make something new and engaging, with truly new and unseen footage.
This DVD manages that very well. There are UNSEEN clips, and there are short interview clips from Lennon. There is the rarest and most expensive footage of The Beatles - rumored to have cost the makers of this DVD half a million Dollars-and we get to see it in all its pristine glory, digitally enhanced. If you simply. When this album was first released as a double album on vinyl in 1973 it was a real gem - and an essential purchase for Collectors. It wasn't a 'Greatest Hits' type of record, but a collection of The Beatles' finest songs.
Something New The Beatles Album Worth
It contains all the A-Sides of singles up until 1966 and a selection of songs from various albums during the same period. What made it essential was the inclusion of some rare versions of some of the songs. 'I Feel Fine' for instance began with some mysterious whispering and 'From Me To You' omitted the harmonica in its introduction. The version of 'Paperback Writer' was a different mix from previous releases.
These, and other intriguing odds and ends made it of great interest to collectors. At the time of its initial release no one seemed to notice that the whole four sides of the set played for just. Like the original pressing of double-LP ASIN:B000002UAX THE BEATLES (1968), copies of THE BEATLES RARE PHOTOS & INTERVIEW CD are numbered. Mine is #258528. The disc itself has a photo of Ringo from this same session. The 24-page booklet is filled with b&w pictures of the Fabs' first American tour. Both Sullivan appearances are here as are scenes of Central Park, one of DJ Murray the K and another of the guys on a yacht.

The CD of modern stereo remixes is amazing and beyond my expectations. As expected, 'Love Me Do' and 'She Loves You' are in mono on the CD. No mono extraction mixes like they did with some of the Beach Boys albums. Also, for some reason, they chose to include the mono version of 'From Me To You', even though a stereo version exists. Overall, a nice companion piece. Now all we need now is the full catalogue remixed into modern stereo, the complete Let It Be film sessions and the ABC Anthology series remastered in HD. This is a review of the 2012 Blu-Ray release of Yellow Submarine, not a movie review (you can find those elsewhere all over the web).
This is the complete movie, as was the 1999 release. Just to compare; this release was visually at least as much of an improvement over the 1999 release as that release was over all of it's predecessors, if not more. Not surprising since the entire film was cleaned and repaired manually cell by cell. MOVIE VIDEO: The picture is so nice it is hard to believe.

Having only seen the movie on the various home video releases over the last 25 or so years, I have never seen this movie look this good. I know how bright the colors in various stills and even the 1968 comic book were, but I had no idea that the movie colors actually.
This review is for the collection, which includes both versions of the Live At The BBC discs including volume 2. The collection is a great addition to any Beatles collection. I have the original Live At The BBC and now can attest that this remastered version is much better that the original. And while Volume 2 does not disappoint, I am of the opinion that the original is stronger. Perhaps it's just that they're running out of BBC takes from which to release. Having said that, Volume 2 is worth it.
Overall, this is an excellent couple of discs and is up to to the quality of Beatles releases.
