Well, you should be able to play AVIs with Haali (for example). Try updating Haali, and see if it is used when playing an AVI. Right-click and choose 'filter properties'-'graph information'. Haali should appear there.
A screenshot may help. Also, in Settings-Smartplay, under the 'Settings&Black List' tab, check the 'Show Smart Play graph creation errors' checkbox. This may help debug cases when Smart Play tries to fit filters and decoders but can't for some reason. I hope we'll be getting somewhere with that info. 39.5KB 6 downloadsI reinstalled Haali, set the video renderer to Haali, and launched an AVI file. I got audio but the video was pitch black. Here's the graph info: I then went in and clicked on Show Smart Play Graph Creation Errors.
I relaunched ZP and tried to play the same AVI file. Same pitch black screen but with audio. No error messages came up prior to playback. 31.04KB 8 downloads 19.95KB 4 downloadsI then launched one of my large FLV files, and I got these 2 messages. I clicked close on message 1, then clicked close on message 2. Then the clip started playing, and there was horrible sounding 'scrambling' noise. When the noise stopped, I could get audio, but only a pitch black screen.
Download Haali Media Splitter 1.13 (): Haali Media Splitter (aka Haali Matroska Splitter) is a DirectShow splitter.

I then set my video renderer to Standard Overlay, and relaunched the FLV file. I got the same 2 messages, the same terrible 'scrambling' sound, although this time I was able to get video and audio. The video playback did its usual hiccuping of course. I should also mention that if I switch my video renderer back to Standard Overlay, and then relaunch the AVI file, the video is there, but it plays back very slowly - almost like it's in slow motion, even though it's not really playing in slow motion. The audio plays at normal speed.
It seems you do have some codecs missing. For video, it should read 'ffdshow MPEG-4 video decoder' and for audio 'MPEG layer-3 decoder'. I'm sure they are in the ZP install center (in File Format association). Please install from the install center and not from the web. Also check suffixes are registered correctly there (AVI etc. Are associated with ZP), and check under system-Missing Formats if something else is also missing. Some files also need: haali media splitter settings - Output - Use custom media type for H.264 Booga.

In my install center, there isn't a choice for 'ffdshow MPEG-4 video decoder' or 'MPEG layer-3 decoder'. I only have 'ffdshow.' The only install that has 'MPEG' at all in its name is 'Gabest MPEG Splitter.'

All of my installs are up to date. I check them on a daily basis. My Zoom Player is associated with AVI and FLV. It always has been. As for the missing formats, these were the only ones that were missing: AC3Form (required by some of the AC3 decoders, but not all); CDXA Reader (SVCD Disc Images); OptimFROG Audio.
They are considered unimportant by Zoom Player, so I didn't install them. If you think they are important to potentially solving the problems I am having, please tell me. Some files also need: haali media splitter settings - Output - Use custom media type for H.264 Where and how do I do this? I do not know where to go. An update on a few things: I have a brand new video card on my PC: NVIDEA GeForce 6200 (512MB) I can now see video when using the Haali's Video Renderer. Please disregard the AVI file I was referencing above - I am interested in playing back FLV files w/ Haali's Video Renderer.
I am having ONE playback problem with my FLV files when using Haali's. When I start playing a FLV file, the video plays back smoothly and doesn't hiccup, but it plays too slowly. And no, my slow motion feature isn't on, although it plays as though it's on. The good news is that I have tried playing back at least 10 different large FLV files, and they are all having the same playback problem - so at least there is some consistency for once. Now if I could just fix this one playback problem, I'd be in business. Any assistance would be appreciated.
BTW - I don't know if this is still relevant in light of my recent problems: Start-Programs-Haali Media Splitter-Media Splitter Settings-Output - Use custom media type for H.264 But under my Haali media splitter settings, there is no 'custom media type for H.264' option under output. I only see these options: 1. Force fake 25 fps in media type 2. SSA fontsize scale percentage 3. Decoder priority boost 4.
